Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
