'Living a Nightmare': Relatives of Missing Teenagers Desperately Seek Answers After Alpine Blaze
The families of young people unaccounted for after a devastating inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's alpine town are facing an excruciating wait for official news and appealing for information about their family members publicly.
The blaze ripped through the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Circulated video reveal the roof structure igniting as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Authorities have indicated that it could take considerable time to formally name the fatalities of the tragedy, which killed numerous partygoers and wounded another over a hundred. Authorities said on Friday that the majority of the injured have been identified, with work continuing to identify the other six.
In the waiting period, families and friends have been taking to social media to request clues about their loved ones who were in attendance that night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are not yet determined, according to an heartfelt request from his parent.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, informed a local newspaper that she had returned to Lausanne to see if he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but could not find him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. It's horrific," she said.
She continued that some of his companions had been discovered with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured an absolute nightmare."
The Italy's government has confirmed that six of its nationals have not been located.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, originally from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An representative has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His mother explained that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"A companion said they fled after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators said, "I've always been struck by his kindness and smile, alongside great maturity. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in the country, was also present on that night, according to reports.
Her sibling has posted an urgent request on social media, saying the family has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the situation.
