The Actress Says Discussing Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels fitting to speak out against the Trump presidency, concerned it could worsen polarizing arguments and further divisions throughout the United States.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains Lawrence
During a discussion, Lawrence commented, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars do not make a difference at all on electoral choices.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
The actress has admitted freely about supporting right and leftwing candidates in past elections. Brought up by Republican parents in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and stating she understood during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was voting against her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “since I think she’s an amazing candidate and I trust that she will make every effort to defend abortion access.”
Industry Position
Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her rejection of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the public choices was highlighted by the outcome.
“Another four years appears changed,” noted she regarding Trump’s presidency. “As he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she plays a young mom who deals with her psychological well-being in a remote area. Speaking at a media event for the project in Venice, Lawrence commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s taking place is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s awful.”
Additional Thoughts
Lawrence added by saying that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the discussions of the political landscape at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the kids now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
She attempted to refocus outrage about the situation to leaders rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she advised, in what many took to be a allusion to the declaration endorsed by more than 4,000 arts community members to avoid certain cultural organizations.
Individual Insights
The actor, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her portrayal in the new film. While Ramsay has denied the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, the actress revealed that she did relate to parts of her film narrative after the arrival of her youngest child, not long after shooting ended.
“I felt anxiety about my child,” she said, “envisioning every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a treatment called that medicine and I used it for two weeks and it really helped.”
Professional Experiences
The actor also mentioned regarding the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the project while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
